Greetings, I am a new member looking for some help. Our volunteer fire department in Western NYS has a 1935 Ford Firetruck in mint condition with the exception of the U40 Barton front mount pump. Several decades ago it was left outside in the winter and froze causing the gears to crack. The broken parts were removed and lost to time.

I'm working to get the pump operational again and am looking for advice- I have read some great posts and advice on this forum re: Barton pumps and am hoping someone can help me. I have the operating manual already which has been helpful. Does anyone have spare parts or a surplus pump to sell? Is there a company or individual who works on there and rebuilds them?

Finding someone to work on it is hard.
Finding parts is even harder.
I suggest, to just piece/braze it back together and use it for display.
Internal parts are hard to come by.
Mike B on here and Mike Stemler are good people to chat with.
Other info is really hard to come by.

Sorry for not seeing this sooner. I'm into fire engines, but I don't have any info on the Barton Pumps. I have Waterous and John Bean units.

Until you have 4 or 5 posts under your belt you'll be restricted in what you can do on the Stovebolt site (keeps the spammers out), so make a few more posts or comments to existing posts and you'll get full access which will allow you to PM other members.

Does it spin free or is it locked up?

Have you taken the pump apart yet?

Was the impeller damaged?

Have you had a professional welder look at your crack, it might be repairable? If it's on the low pressure/suction side you might be OK with grinding a small V in the crack and using Marine Tex or JB Weld to seal it up.

Hello everyone- I'm still looking for a replacement U40 Barton Pump or gear box to replace missing gears in ours.

The crack in the casing has been repaired. The impeller and impeller shaft are still in working condition but I need the gears. Nobody in DPAAMFAA has replied that they have an extra one.

Anyone have leads or experience with the U40 that could offer suggestions? We're getting desperate....

Have you taken the old broken gear to a machine shop to see if they can make a new one?

We don't have the gears- they were lost or thrown out 20+ years ago. The entire gear box is empty. If anyone has gears to let us borrow or mechanical drawings I could have gears made.
