The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline T5 transmission swap ?

I know that the drive shaft needs to be shortened 3 inches. I don't want to cut my original drive shaft. My truck is a 59 1/2 ton all original drive train.
I procured another drive shaft and now find that the universal joints are not the same size. The caps are different sizes as well as the width across the joint. I seem to remember 40 yrs. ago you could buy a conversion u joint that would have different size caps, but I don't remember if the width across the caps were different. Any ideas from those who have done this already? How did you do this.

Any driveshaft shop can hand you the crossover u-joints that you need- they do it every day... No prob!

Thanks Dave, The drive line shop that is shortening the shaft said gotcha covered, don't worry about it. Seems it is a common u joint that gets used.

You could just as well have them put a more common yoke on the shaft for you that matches the Diff. Either way works.

The drive line shop had the conversion u joint on hand. One axis is the width and diameter of a 80's model gm product and the other axis is the size of the older gm products. They said it is a common u joint that is available anywhere if I ever needed a replacement.
