has anyone used the Altman easy latch kit ? my 50 ad
pick-up the passenger door has to be slammed to be
closed the company makes a latch kit to solve this
problem the companys name is TRIQUE MFG.

Will not let an AD truck out the door with the crappy factory latches, must have bear claw and Altman is probably the best.

Will these latches work with the stock factory window mechanism and stock door handles?

Yes.

I just went to Altman's website and it says that with their latches, you will no longer be able to lock the doors from the inside with the interior handles.

So now you've got to install a remote electric door lock system to be able to lock both doors?

Or put a lock cylinder in both doors. That is easy to do.

Yes, that would work. But then I'd have to give a key to my passenger for them to lock their door, too (or do the obligatory walk-around & unlock ritual every single time I depart or arrive at the truck!) I assume that the bear claw internal mechanism is somewhat generic and that a re-design for our particular application was probably too costly to justify....

I'm sure the girlfriend would love them, as it means that I will be standing there to open/close for her door every time!

I guess that detail would be a problem if you lived in one of those crime infested cities where you had to lock your doors. Otherwise you would never notice.

Your girl friend should have to go around and let you out since only the passenger door had a lock. Even better have an extra key made so both of you can step out and lock the door. We put driver side door locks in some of the AD's we do but it is time consuming and a bit pricey. I'm in my 80's so I remember why the lock was on the right (or passenger) side only. Many small town streets were not paved so you slid across the seat to get out on the sidewalk rather than getting out on the left side and slogging through the mud to get on the sidewalk.

Did the Altman latch install this winter............they are awesome. The door close lie a modern car, tight and quiet while still look stock. The BIG plus......They stay latched !!! While the instructions say they ( latches) will not fix poor fit of the doors........they will allow better flushness if you tinker with the adjustment and position of the striker.

My driver's side I moved the striker in slightly from stock........the door is now flush at the bottom and in at the top slightly.

I did not connect the door lock at this time. In the future plan on the remote activation lock and avoid the key.

There is a good reason the stock latch design was discontinued 50 years ago. My wife fell out of the 50's Chevy pickup when she was kid......in the 50's in a non accident going around a corner.
