I've searched and looked all over but can't find it. Someone had put together a disc brake "kit" with caliper brackets and a list of parts to buy from a modern Chevy truck. Can anyone point me to a link for that? I remember seeing it about a year ago.

The username is Thoraco as I remember. I bought the kit and put my truck on the road today and those brakes stop you on a dime.

I had a few snags on my install and he was right on top of helping with the project.

Thank you - did you change your master cylinder also? How about the rear brakes?

I bought the master cylinder he suggested and also added a vacuum tank. Rear brakes are drum and are more than adequate with those huge front discs.

Ok thank you. My drum brakes stop me good, actually too good - they drag really bad when they get hot and I cant seem to overcome it. The springs just cant overcome the hydraulic pressure.

I have a 51 GMC 1 ton heavy fire truck and bought my disc brake setup from Dave. I also bought the dual master cyl and booster which installed in the stock pedal position from another vendor. The master cyl set up clears the PTO and the disc brake brackets from Dave used 2011 Chev van 1 ton calipers and rotors.

Get the remote reservoir, Daves kit, retain the stock steering rod, new vacuum booster/master cyl and CHEV van parts and you will be very happy. I retained the rear drums and now my truck stops on a dime with ease!

Call Dave Chapman!

Here's another kit that I've seen used on some other forums.

says 55-59, but should work on the earlier trucks too. The 52-59 trucks used the same spindle and hubs.

I bought the Hollister setup for the front. It was a lot more expensive, hope its worth it. I have not installed it yet but the quality of the brackets for the price looked rough. For the rears I bought the setup I posted earlier.

Well I have it all put together and trying to get the system bled and work out the bugs. If anyone does this Hollister kit, some of the parts on the part list are incorrect. Front hoses were not correct, and the instructions were decent but at times confusing.

I would encourage anyone that is interested in Hollister's disc kit to call Dave Chapman. I'm surprised you say some of the hoses are incorrect. Dave is more than willing to help out. He even offers a Rockauto shopping cart list for all needed parts. I would call him direct vs. going through ebay.

He was nice, I emailed him a few times. The front hose part numbers were not correct and I let him know which part numbers worked. I'm just saying don't run out and buy your parts to try to do it over a weekend like I did.

I'd be interested in the parts list. I know someone parting out a 3500 Express van. What do I need? I may go for the Hollister kit in a few months. Swapping engines right now but the opportunity to score the parts from the van would be now.

I have the parts for the DRW set up already. Should have a second axle in a few weeks with the full DRW still on it is time to get on it!

Thanks!

If you email Dave at Hollister he is very helpful, or you can download the instructions and parts list off his website. But I used the OEM 2003 Chevy 2500 HD front rubber lines from Napa, rather than the part numbers Dave had. They are 1/4" and he recommended 3/16". But I needed it on the road and I read a lot of articles that said there is no pressure difference between the 2 sizes. Mine works fine at 1/4" for what its worth.
