Hello,

On 47-50 trucks there is a vent door on the side just ahead of the door. If the an assist spring that helps to keep the door closed? If there is, does anyone have a picture of it? Otherwise how does it keep a good seal? Mine seems to a bit of free movement within the handle lock.

On the '48 standard cab there was an over center spring that held it closed and I think fully open. Handle with a plastic knob same as the cowl vent.
On the '51 COE the lever is smaller and slides in a slot that has a notch for the lever to lock into when it's closed. I believe friction holds it open to any place you set it. No knob, just a metal lever.

Have you replaced the rubber gasket?

Original gasket is a dense foam type material. A rubber gasket is too stiff and will not seal properly. Gasket glues in with 3m weather strip adhesive. Steele products has the best weather striping and body gaskets.
