Is there supposed to be a gasket between the engine block and the oil screen to pump oil line? I am talking about where the fixture attaches to the block with a single bolt. The other end of the line connects to the pump. The screen housing attaches over the single bolt with plate, two bolts and a gasket. It does not mention it in the shop manual and there was not a gasket when I disassembled the engine. What about using a little high temp silicone to form a gasket?

I haven't had to tear my 216 down that far yet but I don't recall a gasket there on the 235 I rebuilt.

Are you rebuilding the engine or just working on the oil pump assembly?

So I think you are asking about where a single bolt attaches the assembly to the main bearing cap. I just went through this. Mine didn't have a gasket and I didn't worry about it. After I had the whole thing together I discovered an appropriate circular gasket in my gasket set, oh well! I don't think it makes a difference.

Yes, where it attaches to the main bearing cap. I think I can see the faint outline of where a circular gasket was there. I was mostly worried about the pump sucking air. I think I will make a gasket just to be safe. Thanks for you help!
