My new girlfriend is in the house. My 1957 GMC 450 is finally in my garage. Anticipation has been strong in this delivery. I walked around her a few times letting the reality sink in. Got up in the cab and started the engine and listened to the 347 idle down and then revved her a little and let the sound vibrate the garage. I shut her down and checked all the lights and switches. Even the windshield wipers operated smoothly.
I cleaned out the cab floor and behind the seats, rags from the cab corners(????), candy from long forgotten parades and 2 large cans of brake fluid (that's not surprising now).
I moved to the storage boxes and removed what amounts to a 16 gal shop vac full of rust and debris, trash, rags, mouse houses and parts. I was disappointed to see so much rust. 4 of the six storage box bottoms are toast. Repairable, yes but...
The pump is a Hale Fire Pump Model QL-235. PTO driven. As big as the truck is wide. Per the Chief, "It worked when we parked it". It did have Anti freeze in it as did the 500 gal tank. The truck came with 2, 4 1/2" hoses and a debris screen, both hose reels are piped for fighting. It apparently had a water gun mounted at one time, behind the reels. The rear platform shows signs of fatigue and a few minor collisions and realignments with a big Chevy tool(GMC's don't break).
