The person who has it said it's about 7' long and is an 8 lug wheel. Is it a short bed? Is it a 1/2 ton. I always thought GMC 150 was the 3/4 ton? Does it run? Probably 228 engine, SN starts w/ displacement, R side, stamped in casting behind starter, i.e. 228xxxx, etc?, measure bed or get bed length, should be 4 speed w/ 8 lug wheels, torque tube drive?
Engine could have been replaced w/ larger engine up to 302 displacement, max.

'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed. '55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

But realize it's a clone or something/someone has added a 1/2 T cab to a 3/4 T or switched VIN plate or title or ?. Anyway you may have EXTREME TROUBLE when registering it.
Further, GMC DID NOT stamp frames. Only Chevy. If you find one, post it.
The marketplace has said that short beds are more desirable, therefore more valuable. There are many who still prefer long beds.
If you could post the numbers on motor, title and VIN plate (if it has a legit one) we could give you a better opinion. Contrary to the paranoids, there is no danger in posting a VIN number or license plate. Leave the production number off if you want. You say the plate is wrong but you don't really know. Yet.
There is an outside chance that because it's old, back then, some DMV's used different methods of serial numbering. Usually the motor number was used. Motor gets replaced, then it does not match title and/or someone changes to another number, and you are off to the races. Something could have gotten mixed up and it's all legit IF the difference in numbers makes some sense. I have seen a '47-53 GMC (not sure which year) short bed truck with 8 lug split rims. It had a 228 engine in it. It had the u-joint ball like what is found in a 3/4 ton Chevrolet, and a two piece drive shaft. It had the carrier bearing mounted to a a factory riveted crossmember and there was no sign of frame shortening. It was a real head scratcher. I am kicking myself for not taking any pictures. The truck was farm dirty and everything looked like it came that way. GMC was known for making some odd trucks over the years, so who knows.

It has the 87" long bed and 8 lug lock ring rims as well as the 228 engine. On the 51s the "VIN" is really called the serial number and it's on a plate that can be found on the front part of the driver door cab. In my research, GMC didn't call out a 100 or 150 for these trucks (I think Chevy did, though). I think these are solid trucks, especially with limited rust (check the cab corners). I've been waiting for warmer weather to get mine running but I plan on a daily driver. The series for my truck is 150-22, the Model is 152-22 and it has the 125 1/4 wheelbase. The serial number on the plate and title are just the last 4 numbers from the plate.

What is your complete Engine Serial Number?
