Hello all, on the oil line across the top of the rocker assembly there is a clip that when rotated exposes a hole. What is the hole for and should it be covered with the clip?

The hole is there to stop the tube from siphoning and the clip is there to stop dirt from getting in. This is described in a GM document, I just don't know which one it is in.

I'm not picturing what you're talking about. I don't recall a clip with a hole under it. Do you have a photo? How to post a photo.

I know the clip you're asking about and truckernix nails it. You also want to keep it positioned so as to deflect the oil that'll eventually squirt out back down towards the head. The oil can squirt straight out of the center valve cover vent slot if not deflected by that clip. Been there done that LOL.

I see all 216s are not created equal. My '38 has no such clip.
