Proud owner of a '54 3600 chevy but looking to replace my hood which has some dents that are causing the latch mechanism to be a bit of a bear... Found on the local CL a '49 chevy being parted out, looks to be a 1.5 or larger? (has dually rear), but size isn't specified in the add.

I know the 'big' bolts front sheetmetal (hood, fenders etc) is larger than the smaller models, but curious if the early series (47-53) hoods are interchangeable with the late (54-55.1) series hoods/sheetmetal?

May be out of luck if its a 'big' bolt regardless, since I'm not looking to swap more than the hood but thought id ask. Hope that made sense.

Thanks

Chooglin

Section 8.000 PANEL, Hood Top (left & right sides)

Very slight differences 47-53 (holes for side emblems, maybe) - nonetheless, the same hood for all regular-cab trucks

1954/55st have other differences from 47-53.
Maybe at the front where it matches to the grill/grill-pan?

Thanks for the reply Tim,

Ya thats kinda what i thought.
Not so worried about the emblem holes and small stuff but the fit in general. Where it meets the different style grille etc.

Might go take a look at it but probably just hold off until i can find one from my model year. Play it safe.

Thanks

Chooglin

Chooglin,

Let's see if any one else posts info about 1954 hood difference(s).

One (maybe the only) difference might be the way the front hood emblem attaches?

I have a '54 hood on my '49. (Just finished lining everything up today!) The only difference is the lack of holes in the side for the 3100 emblem, and the four holes at the nose for the front emblem are flush rather than recessed like the '47-'53 hoods. I am using the '54 emblem, but I can't see why a '47-'53 emblem wouldn't work. The four holes are in the same locations on both hoods.
