Could oil, seeping/leak,be coming from head gasket? Don't think its coming from valve cover gasket. Thanks,Dennis

if the engine runs OK (good compression) and there's no coolant in the oil or vice versa - its probably not your head gasket. i bet it is the valve cover gasket even if you don't think it is. those have a large sealing area and just four screws holding it on.

Thanks,i agree. Same as carb.,not enough bolts.4 on carb also.Just wasn't sure what goes on between block=head,if it could leak. Oil is clear. Runs great. Will have to check compression..Thanks,Dennis

I have had a fresh rebuilt 235 leak oil between the head and the block. To fix it, I warmed it up fully, then re-torqued the head bolts with a newer torque wrench. I believe that I had used the old torque wrench for a breaker bar 18 or 19 too many times. smile

The torque wrench I use doing warranty claim inspections gets calibrated once a year. It's surprising how many cars I find with loose lug nuts after tire changes, wheel balancing, etc. from places like Firestone, Goodyear, and a bunch of the other national franchise places, usually after a wheel parts company with the vehicle!

To Carl's point, many head gasket manufacturers recommend doing a re-torquing after the engine has warmed up when installing a new head gasket by backing off the head bolts by 1/4 turn one bolt at a time and re-torquing at the correct spec...90 foot pounds for a 235...using the normal head bolt tightening sequence. My guess is that many head gaskets get installed on a cold engine and never get this done.

I read after warmed up re-torque from Matt. But do you let get cool before re-torquing? Hope that makes sense..Not a new re-build 9,000 mi. since done.

Torque the bolts with the engine at fully warmed up condition.
