old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 | Does anyone out there have a factory/dealer installed fog lamp set-up? I have seen a few pictures of trucks so equipped, but not in real life. Mostly I need a picture of the mounting post arrangement for the light itself. I don't think Chevrolet offered such an option in 1959, but I may be wrong.
thanks in advance 59shortfleet

Mine mount a little different from what Bill posted. I attached a couple of pictures so that you can see what they look like. Not everyone likes the look on a TF truck, but I do. The only negative is that I have to be careful when working under my hood. The bulbs are held in place with spring clips, and if I forget and lean my leg against them when reaching under the hood, the bulbs pop loose from the springs, so I have to remove the mounting ring and reseat the bulbs. http://s844.photobucket.com/user/ma...2291_zps08f526fc.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0Matt | | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 | hello Matt; Thanks for the information and pictures on your fog lamp installation. I may try to find another way to install some aftermarket Unity lamps without drilling the bumper.

I don't believe that my 1959 accessory book shows fog lamps, but I am glad that you responded and gave me the 57 accessory listing.

Mine attach to a piece of 2" angle iron that bolted easily to the frame behind the bumper. I made spacers out of either 3/8" or 1/2" iron pipe covered in black heater hose and long bolts to bring the lights to the height that I wanted. The angle iron also gave me the ability to add a front license plate without drilling the bumper or the cowl.
I can send you some close-ups if you are interested.

thanks, Charles | | | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 592 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 592 | Charles, I tried to take enough pictures to show you how it went together. The lights are 4". You can space them wherever you want. I took a close-up front-on to give you a feel for how I spaced them using the headlight and the parking lamps as reference points. The lights came off a '41 sedan, so I used the brackets that they came with. I changed the bulbs to 12 volt. The 2" angle iron bolts to a holes already in the frame. The angle iron extends past the frame about a foot on each side. You can see how I made spacers to fit the light brackets to the angle iron. There is just enough room for the spacers to clear between the bumper and the cowl. I covered the pipe spacers in black rubber hose to prevent scratches. I ran the wires through screen door springs. It give is more of an old=fashioned conduit look instead of just having exposed black wire. I also included a couple of pictures of the license plate mount that also attached to the angle iron and uses spacers. (The license plate is the original one for my truck.) The backing for the license plate is made out of 1/4" plate. http://s844.photobucket.com/user/ma...hts9_zpsqpcrx9bo.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0Hope this helps, Matt | | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 48 | Hello Matt; Thanks so much for the pictures and description of the work on your 57. You put quite a bit of work on this truck. I'll use what I can on my 59.
Thanks again.

If I did not thank you for the instructions and infor- mation for 1957 truck fog lights, I'm doing so now. It was very good of you to send me the web site for my viewing. I have a question about the light switch wiring, do you have any idea why the tail lights were re-routed through the new fog lamp switch. I can see why you might cut off the park lights, but just why the tail lights?
Thanks much, Charles | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | Charles, I think you'll find that wiring diagram [bottom of page] shows the fog light connection at the light switch is a "pigtail" that probably activates the tail lights, not cut them off, so they can be used without the main lights on .... also, the park lights are not on when the headlights are on, unless you make a modification as shown in this tech tipBill | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 591 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 591 | I have fog lights on my 1957. I used a Bosch Relay activated by a dash switch; instead of going directly from the switch to the fog lights. I wired them separately so they can be on when the high beams are on (usually not allowed, typically only on when low beams are on). don | | |
