What is the correct GM casting number for a 54 Chev 3100 235 Hydra-Matic water pump? Is it 839403? Is there a part number associated with this casting number?
Thanks

The main thing to look for is 235 engine and 3/8 inch fan belt (1953-1955st).

I think the Hydra-Matic makes no difference to the 1953-55st water pump.
But, the Master Parts Manual says "except Automatic transmission" - I do not know why (Greg Hill or other H-M person might know). Maybe the PowerGlide 235 used a different water pump (maybe pulley diameter - I am guessing here).

I have a regular 1954 235 engine's water pump on my 1954 3100 Hydra-Matic engine.

Is the regular water pump casting 839403? I have looked at those same parts books and the confusing part is that GM part 3836084 states for 53-55 Pass/Comm (except HT). GM part 3836223 states 54-55 Comm with HT (with trans cooler). I believe the trans cooler was only on 1 ton and 1.5 ton trucks. Hopefully someone has a stock water pump on their Hydra-Matic that can shed some light. Thanks for your input.

I have two 1954 1/2 ton 235 engines that came with Hydra-Matics - they had/have stock water pumps. As I posted above, they have the same water pump as was used on the 1954 standard transmission truck 235 engine.

I only have one of those engines in NC. I cannot see the casting number.

It looks to me that the two parts manuals that I have have slightly different/conflicting/confusing listings. I think the Hydra-Matic transmissions that came with an optional cooler used a different water pump (they must have been water/coolant cooled?).

The stock GM water pump w/ 3/8" groove pulley on all 53-55(1st) 3100 235 engines, regardless of transmission, appears to be Part# 3836084 changing to Part# 3774211 in Feb 1960. The Casting number for both is 839403. I have no idea why the parts catalogs always states except H.T. If I'm wrong please let me know.
