Can anyone tell me where to find the VIN or any kind of identification or characteristics that might help me verify the exact year of my pickup? Thanks!

There is no vin. The right hand side of the cab below the cowl had a plate. There are some numbers and letters stamped into that plate if still there. Also if the engine is original the numbers on the block will help. There are other hints. Does the gas filler neck have a leather seal or rubber seal. Two windshield wipers or one. How is the rear window installed. A bolted ring or just a rubber gasket?

The number on the original engine block begins with DEA. From what I gather the "D" means it was a 46. It has a leather gas filler grommet, it has only one windshield wiper above the drivers side, and the rear window has a rubber gasket.

Chevrolets don't.

The leather gas filler grommet would be an indication the truck was built fairly soon after the war ended. Mine has one too. It was born in June 1946.
