Has anyone ever thought about laying some strut channel down in their bed between their 2x8 (or whatever) boards? I was just thinking it could come in handy for randomly bolting down anchors, attachments, etc. They have slotted ones that could help dirt and water fall out the backside. They'd probably be reasonable cheap if obtained from a plumbing or electrical wholesaler as opposed to the hardware store.

interesting idea, would have to give it some more thought. I guess it depends on what you are hauling, I would rather tie down with straps hooked ones the outer rail so you are not relying on a bolt and that rail to handle the load. Also, if you haul dirt, it would fall through, and if hauling gravel, you might get some stuck in the slots.

There ar a few types of tie down systems for trucks and trailers that might be better. E-track is one name. http://www.cargoequipmentcorp.com/E-Track-Accessories-s/64.htm
The other is smaller/narrower and sort of keyhole like connections.
