Well we had a discussion recently about did the felt channel go around the top of the window. My truck was very OEM when I bought it and it did not go across the top of the window. Maybe it came out at some point? I hope to make my truck a daily driver so I just redid mine to go across the top and that works too. fits great. So I am still not sure.

Just went & checked my parts doors (still has original window runners in them.
The runners stop about 2" below the top curve of the door. There is nothing across the top.

What I can say is if you form the channel around the window frame and install the channel over the top it fits perfectly. My truck did not have the channel across the top either so it makes me think this was a war years saving of materials. GM seems to have designed it to have the channel.

....I don't have one to check but is it possible that the top part of the door was added to the door after the side channel was in place, so they left it cut to accommodate putting on the top part of the door???

... may be a stupid question but hey, is it possible?

No, that's not possible. It's an interesting thought, but impossible.

Mine was untouched when I got it, and it had the channel all the way around.

I have 3 1.5 ton military trucks (from 41-43) and the window channel DID go across the top. Their are 3 parts to the channel (front, top, rear). I can send you photos... but they are a very thin black felt over a thin piece of metal and each was held in by 2 small clutch head screws.

Reviving an old thread...
Working on the doors for a 41 1/2 ton. The original doors for the 41 I have and for a set of doors for parts from a 46 only have the original channel on the sides and not the top.

I have purchased the full channel from Jim Carter PN WI201
Has anyone actually installed the full channel all the way around the windows? It looks like some spacers would be needed for part of the top portion. Ideas?

I tried to install the top seal on my 42 but the fit did not appear correct. So I left it off. There was no original seal in the top when I took it apart.

I installed around both sides and top. It fits nicely and seals the window tightly. It is secured by the small screws near the top of the sides. It is one continuous felt u strip.

I recently picked up a replacement door for my 38. It still had what was left of the upper channel seal that extended almost to where the curve of the window opening starts to straighten out at the vertical sides. The ends have a very even cut as if that piece was separate from the front and rear vertical pieces. I'm wondering if that's the way they were built and all the doors that are missing that upper piece had them originally and have simply fallen out at some point??

I have 2 original 1946 doors plus the doors on the truck I am restoring and there is no weather strip across the top. Only on the sides.

The doors on my '46 had the weather stripping as described by Harold. There was no indication of a missing section or sections at the top.
