I am researching the purchase of a 53 1/2 to pu with a 70 ish posi rear end 6 bolt and a 350 transmission and a bad 283 motor rust free california truck. $800 dollars. I have the chance to get a free 76 chevy 1/2 ton chassis. Is this a good choice for a front end to put on the 53 chevy and what are the best choices for a front end transplant for better suspension steering and brakes. Am I better off putting the 53 on the 76 chevy?? I do have to work around the calif. garbage. Thanks Ed [email protected] Is $800 too much for the rust free truck rebuilt 350 trans. and posi rearend. The 283 was rebuild and left out in the weather with the heads off and cyl are rusted up.. Thanks so much Ed

You can update the brakes on the stock straight axle and put in a running engine and you will have a running truck. If you have your mind set on torching on a modern front end there are many links and searches to follow with information.

Price sounds fine to me. You could have a running engine for a few hundred.

I do appreciate your input, I may go that route since I have another project much more envolved that I am working on that I have installed the mustang II and 9" and motor mounts trans mounts etc. I want a daily driver that I can upgrade a little at a time. Ed ke6bnl

The 76 front end is too wide for your truck .I have seen a few of these swaps, using the whole frame or just the front clip, the wheels always stick out beyond the fenders. There are some tech articles on sectioning the crossmember so it fit better, but there are easier ways as Tony M suggests.

Why not widen the fenders grin

There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.

Rust free body with a rebuilt 350....Is $800.00
to much to pay...You otta see the crap that we
get up here in Northern Ontario Canada..
They use so much salt here in the winters.. over
the last 40 years that it's now effecting our
waters in local lake's. Let alone the vehicles
we drive..
