For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 54 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 54 | Item 1: Does anyone have a photo of what an original jack for a 59 Chevy 3/4 ton looks like? I have a bottle jack that came with the truck but it seems too small for the job. It also came with a long handle that inserts into the bottle jack. This handle folds in half for storage. Are these originals? Item 2: Does anyone know where I can get lug nuts for a 59 3/4 8-lug? The 1/2 6-lug lug nuts are too small. Handle sounds correct and they are the hardest piece to find. Search site. There was a recent post that included graphics of pieces and storage for tf. Optional tire and wheel combos may have effect on jack height. I am not sure position for jacking on tf trucks. I position under the axle at the backing plate on my 60s. Lugs (3/4 inch) - I find at local Napa. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 592 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 592 | Here is a picture from my '57 3600. The '59 would be the same. The little lug wrench that is about 8" long tucks behind the jack in the bracket and is held in place with the spring clamp. It is one of the L-shape ones with a lug socket on one end and a flat on the other to pry off the hubcaps. http://s844.photobucket.com/user/ma...2751_zps1ae76f71.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1It ironic thing about this assembly is that it would be absolutely worthless on a 3600 with either factory 17.5" or 19.5" rims unless you had a whole bunch of wood in the back of your truck to use as cribbing to get the jack up high enough to work. It is way too short to work from the ground all by itself. And good luck with the little lug wrench! You'd need a pretty good size hunk of pipe to use with it as a breaker bar. But, hey, it's original. Useless, but original. Probably why most got tossed! I've bought replacement lug nuts at NAPA. Most of their stores have a cabinet with all kinds of different lug nuts. They are available in either long or stubby size. I get the longer ones because they fit my impact wrench better. Just bring one in and they'll match up to it. I'm pretty sure that they are 7/16-20 threads, but check to be sure. If you don't have one to bring in, just confirm the thread size and check with NAPA. You both suggested NAPA for the lug nuts so I'll check with them. I have the 17.5 rims on my 3600. My bottle jack and little lug wrench looks so original and fits neatly under the bracket spring. However, as you say Matt, it does seem an undersized lug wrench and the jack is worthless on its own for jacking up the truck. So I was scratching my head; an original factory jack that is useless on the vehicle it comes on?? Looks like I have my answer, a puzzling yes. So good news: I have original equipment! A lil' bad news: It doesn't work. I bet there were a few upset and stranded owners back in the day when they got their first flat tire and realized they couldn't jack up their truck far enough to change the tire with the factory supplied jack. Thanks again, James

Mike B | | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 54 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 54 | Mike, It works just fine but it can't jack the truck up without, as Matt noted, cribbing to raise up the jack itself. Otherwise, it simply doesn't raise up high enough on its own. I've already tried it a couple times and unless you have something to raise up the jack itself, from the top or bottom, it's useless. If you don't want them, sell them to another person who needs them for their truck. By the way, I never needed a length of pipe to use as a breaker bar to loosen the nuts. if you don't honk them on with an impact wrench, you won't either.

I understand their value as original equipment and probably like many other bolters, I hang on to anything related to the truck.
