Mr. Giant,

The AD's rear fenders left the factory with the fender welting. I personally like the looks of it and it also keeps the fenders from sqeaking against the bed.

Mr. Giant,

My understanding is the same as stated in the Jim Carter catalog: Advance-Design front fenters had fender welt from the factory and rear fenders did not have fender welt (on AD and later trucks). However, I do not understand why it was not used - my bet is that anyone who ever removed rear fenders in the last 50+ years put the fenders back on with beaded fender welt.

When I took my 54 apart and I believe it to have been original, there was no seal between rear fenders and bedsides. I will probably install welting at paint time. The front fenders had a gasket type seal but no bead such as what is on the welting. I think those that install welting remove the bead at the point where fender would interfere with hood sides anyway if that description makes any sense. I have not found anyone that sells those seals. Only the fender to inner fender seals are listed as far as I have seen.
