Hi all,
I'm going to be shopping for a chrome grill soon. Does anyone have any suggestions on who has the best repro? I would love to find a really good factory grill anyone have one in chrome?

Thanks bill

I have never heard good things about the repops and I assume that they are all made by the same folks. The complaints are about the fit. I don't know this for sure, but I have heard claims that the repro's do not taper out like the originals. As you probably know, each bar on an original is different. I see folks collecting bars to piece together one good grill. The #5 bar, the bottom one, is the hardest to find straight. We have a huge swap meet here in Portland. Last year I went looking for a good chrome original and I scored a nice one for 150.00. I generally see the repro's going for 350.00 to 400.00. Every year at the swap meet I see a chrome shop from S. Cal. that usually has a rechromed original for about 500.00. That is probably the best way to go if you can't find a good original.
Good Luck,
Steve O

wilbur, I got it from a oufit in Florida and I don't remember their name right off the bat, I will check my receipts and see if I can find the name.

virginiafiretruck, it has been on the truck for a little over two years and it still looks great but, the truck is kept garaged and I use waterless wash on it.

Lonnie,

The color is "Ocean Green" 53 was the year this color was introduced for the ADs.

I have a color chart by RINSHED-MASON and the code is 2U388.

I took the chart to the paint store and they matched it on their computer.

AD: It looks great! I'm hoping mine looks as good when it get finished. We finally got some red paint back on it. It will be done in about two more months just in time for some summer fun driving. See the link below for some recent pics.

I went with the repop and overall I'm happy with it. When I first pulled it out of the box I noticed the ends of the bars were not as rounded as much as the originals and was a little bummed. The ends are "pointier" and I don't think quite as nice as original. Now I know how to spot a repop for sure but I don't think anyone that looks at my truck can tell. I had 5 pretty decent original bars but the back was tired so I just caved in and bought a new one. I don't think it matters too much where you buy it.

I was quoted $300.00 for the 5 bars. You don't have to sand or strip them. Get out the yellow pages. There's got to be somebody close to you.

AD,

Thanks, I like the looks of your truck. Nice paint. I have been thinking about sea foam green for my 54.

I agree, 50 or 60 dollars a bar for rechroming should be about right. Hopefully that includes some dents getting smoothed out.
