Have not heard of them. Mikes Carburetors sells them for $339. Nice looking kit. What truck, motor and carb do you have and what do you want? Plenty of original carbs and kits. Easy to rebuild. If you have a good core: Jim Carter has Rebuilt for $175 (all on back order?). Classic Truck Parts $179.

P.T. Barnum is alive and well, and selling carburetors!

Well, you only need two adjustments on a carburetor. The main metering jet and the size of the venturi. The metering jet would be no problem. Maybe he uses venturi of different diameters that slip into the throttle housing like Zenith did. Or maybe its kinda like what Jerry alludes to. Add a little more snake oil it it for a bigger motor.

How about power valve mixture, accelerator pump volume and velocity, part throttle transition, ported or full accessory vacuum, dashpot throttle closure rate, fast idle during choke operation, and about a dozen other tweaks that account for hundreds of different part numbers just for GM Quadrajet carbs alone? An engine might run with a one-size-fits-none carb, but performance and/or gas mileage will suck like a Dyson vacuum cleaner!

I meant Mikes Carburetors Sells Daytona for $339. Daytona had no pricing. Hate that. They look good but the castings and such are made in Argentina. Rather have China. smile Give me Rochester or give me Carter or give me Edelbrock (Carter) but ya doesn't has to gimme Universal.

$350. Add another $25 + GST if you are Canadian. Nice... frown

Have seen a number of various carburetors "reproduced" offshore over the last few years.

So far, the ONLY one I have seen that is useful for more than a paperweight is the model 97 made in England. They had some "teething" issues in the beginning, but a very reputable company, and now have a very useable product.

But if you enjoy rebuilding engines, go for the offshore reproductions!

And Bart - if you ever do a side by side comparison of an AFB clone to a genuine AFB, you will drop your third "gimme" wink

Yep, simply going for the cheapest price for a service is much sillier than thinking you get the best by paying the highest price?

Check out references and quality of work (and how fast they "deliver" that quality product)?

Check out how the "seller" backs the work/service/product, in the unlikely event that something goes bad too early?

My experience is limited with 235 carbs. I ditched the Rochester when it developed a leak, tried the holly weber from the pinto/vega era. Works well but too small for the top end Tried 2 holly webers, an expensive lesson in after market performance parts (the fenton intake was junk) And am now considering a single weber 38. It's supposed to be good for 6 cylinders with around 250 cubic inches. Not eager for another expensive lesson. Maybe another vintage carb?

To date, in 50 plus years of working on carburetors and learning lessons; my most expensive lesson was a Weber two-barrel IDA that even the so-called Weber guru's could not make to function as well as a $5. swap meet flattop Ford (Autolite) 2-barrel. This lesson cost me almost $2500. several years ago when we were sponsering one of the dirt-track 4-cylinder race cars. Was supposed to be the "hot" set-up.

Lots of vintage carbs that will work well on a 250.

For a 250 CID Chevrolet, I would personally look at a Zenith from a GMC 248, one of the aftermarket Strombergs, or a Carter YF from a 240 CID Ford if the idea was a single barrel.

For a two-barrel (if a good two-barrel manifold exists, NEVER with a 2->1 adapter), a Carter WCD or WGD, a Rochester 2GC, or a Stromberg WW.

Others may have other choices.

And if I mis-read your post, and you are looking for a carb for a 235, difficult to beat the Carter YF (pick the correct one for your year), as Carter designed several specifically for the 235.

Jon.

you say pick the correct one for my year, it's a 235 from 1954 with the 848 head (little higher compression) I'm using a 2>1 adapter now with the holly weber. A carter YF designed for a 235 sounds good. There's even a gentleman I see at area swap meets who sells vintage carbs he has rebuilt. I'll look into the carterYF

I am actually thinking about dual carbs

I have 1957 235 currently considering using Tom Langdons set up.

I have a YF2100 on my 235 with 848 head with a T-5 transmission behind it, and I do not need any more carburetor than that. I reach maximum RPM (screaming, as they say) quickly with every gear shift, and have plenty of gas pedal in overdrive at 65 MPH. I have never tried it, but I bet this truck will do 100 MPH.

Does anyone know the fellow somewhere in New York that has has a carb shop? I've called and spoken with him before but lost his number after my phone died last year. He used to post on Stovebolt occasionally because that's where I got his contact info. I have Carb King's info but would like to also have him in my reference library.

Thanks!
