Considering putting 18" wheels rear and 17" fronts on my '54 3100 1/2 ton. Could be 17's all around. The point is I want a wider wheel and tire than the stock 15's. I don't like fender flares FYI.
So for those of you who have done this appreciate your advice in advance.
Not much room (width) inside the rear fenders as it exists. I can see remounting the shocks inboard which is not a huge deal and looks like you can swap around the existing brackets to accommodate that effort..
It also looks like you can remove the inner fender well sheet metal. But then you have the bed right behind it. And that is the challenge.
How have you guys done that? Did you just simply tub it or?????
Ideally I would like to fit say a 235/60-18" in the rears.

Unless you can find skinnies in the 17/18" size tires, you will have steering component clearance issues in the front.
Depending on your rear end width, at issue will be the back spacing of the rims you will need to choose.
You have some serious challenges ahead of you.

Yes I know on both counts. I could compromise to a 16" for the front which of course fitment would need to be determined. But I wonder how this guy did it with no sign of tubbing the bed. Unless he had wider rear fenders made.

I'm sure that is how he did it. A place called Superior Glass Works makes wide (2.5") fenders for our trucks. In glass yes. then if you want them to blend with the running boards they sell those also. All in all, beats the major mods that would have to be done to the rear if you did not have wider fenders.
