on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 258 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 258 | I know my question concerns something way newer than what the site is about, but I figured maybe you guys might he able to help...
I will be needing to repaint my '89 Chevy 2500 Scottsdale, which was originally built as a Cab & Chassis, and fitted with a Reading utility body.
It was painted red.
The paint code (?) from the sticker inside the glovebox is one of the following:
WA-L 8832 U 8832
7810
Does anyone know if any of these number correspond to a GM paint color, and if so ,which color ?
I've ditched the utility body and replaced it with a '98 fleetside pick-up box, which is a lighter shade of red...I need to paint everything to match once the warm weather returns.
The "original" paint on the cab (door jambs and all) appears to be a regualr red enamel, not a metallic or BC/CC...
Any ideas ?
Thanks...

Maybe I don't understand the question. If you are going to paint everything, meaning the new bed too, why not pick a color you like instead of a color Detroit liked.
You are not going to be "matching" anything on a total repaint so wouldn't a paint number be a moot point.

Very imaginative. It was used on '87-'91 Chevy and GMC full-size pickups, and should have been a BC/CC.

I didn't know if this was a commercial color, or what...
If I can get away with just painting the box to match the rest of the truck, that's as far as I'll go...
It's a work truck, not a resto project...I need to get it (mostly) the same color for my own peace of mind, and to keep the wife off my back...
Might be one of those "in for a penny, in for pound" deals too...If I have to buy the paint by the gallon, then I might as well scratch the whole thing and paint it all...
Thanks for your help, guys !

Another bit of info, the "L" and "U" that appear before the 8832 means "Lower" and "Upper" when refering to a two tone.
