Hi all, I've come across a 59 Canadian Pontiac 261 that is currently set up for a by pass oil filter. I've read some articles that suggest if the dowel in the block is driven in the engine could become a full flow, another article doesn't
recommend this as it might damage the block??
Does any one have some experience with this and how did it work out?

I had no trouble driving the dowel into the block. I sprayed it with Kroil a few times a day for about a week, then I used a punch just smaller than the dowel. It took a couple good whacks to get it moving. I was too timid at first. Once it started, it went in steadily.

It goes in 5/8". I bent a piece of wire to use as a depth gauge. You'll be able to tell when it bottoms out by the feel of the hammer. I tapped easier as I got close to the end.
