I've got a 52' AD that came with a so so chrome front bumper and a lousey chromed and nicked up rear bumper. I saw a 30's something F*#^ truck go by the other day with bumpers painted the same as his running boards and fenders. Looked real nice.
My grill will be painted the same as the body but would like to know if anyone else has painted their bumpers instead of installing chrome. What about powder coating?

painted bumpers were standard - I've done paint over old chrome, works fine, but you need to do a good job of removing or at least scuffing the chrome, especially if it's nicked and peeling - the 58 with painted bumpers, chrome grille was swapped for a better painted one

I painted the front bumper on my 42.It was chrome that was peeling off.I took a grinder to it then sanded it then primed it.I then painted it base coat black then cleared it.

my truck has a white front bumper from the factory and it looks really sharp, when i replace the rear step bumber i am going to get a paintable one to match the front. it is a good look.

Checked with the powder coater. They would charge $60 a bumper to do. Thought this wasn't too bad since the entire bumper is coated in PC. The durability has me interested as well. Since it's a $100 plus for the chrome Chinese repo, I thought why not?

A couple of years ago a catalog I had offered a paint that emulated chrome. The pigment was supposedly ultra fine which allowed the near chrome like finish with just paint. I am thinking that the company may have been Eastwood.

If memory serves me I tend to remember the paint costing nearly $100 per quart. If it really did give a chrome look perhaps it might be worth it.

Perhaps someone with an Eastwood catalog can give more information or perhaps it was from another company.

Has anyone any more knowledge of this product?

i got my grille and bumper repainted white cause my truck orignally came with the white grille and bumper..I think it looks more orignal.

it,s called "almost chrome" comes in 12 oz. spray cans at10.99 ea part#10352z haven't used it but of their stuff i've used it has done ok to very good. www.eastwood.com is their address

I think "almost" is the keyword there - I used a 'chrome paint' to touch up a bumper that had a couple dings - should be called 'almost silver'

I used a can of cheap rattle can Chrome paint from the parts house to paint the inside of the front park/turn signal lights. Dried to a semi brillant chrome look more than a silver. You don't see the paint but wanted something to increase reflection of the light. Works great and highly recommend.
