I need help... We have an old 1958 Chevy 60 Viking grain truck and when we purchased it...we come to find out that the rear hold down spring was broken. We have been able to locate the springs for the front...but NOT the rear back brakes. We need to get the truck back on the road so that we can use it for our work.. but no one can locate a simple spring for us. I have pictures of the spring as well as the truck and what the back brakes etc looks like. Would someone PLEASE assist me with this!!!!!!!!

Hy MelodyM I posted a reply to your question that you tagged on to someone elses question "1958 Viking parts?", but until now you hadn't responded. I asked you to clarify if you wanted hold down or pull back springs? and I asked you to post whatever pictures you had, unfortunately the hardware for the rear brakes in those years can be tricky there is more than one design. I will help you anyway I can but sometimes it does take some research.

Hy MelodyM, do your rear brakes have two different lengths of pull back springs or eight identical barrel shaped springs?

okay... got you some more information. the front breaks are a single standard spring. The rear is to a 1 1/2 to 2 ton truck... hydrolic boast system... duel break adjuster...rear dual wheel cylinder.

Hy MelodyM, I have never been notified when someone has posted after me, I don't think this site works that way. If your truck uses the eight (four per side) identical barrel shaped springs then the Raybestos part number for the set is H509. Unfortunately when I tried to cross that number at Napa it would not cross, a check of RockAuto's website revealed "no parts found". A check of my Wagner catalogue revealed their part number F45923 which crossed at Napa to their part number UP82490, that may or may not still be available, hope that helps.

Brake and Clutch in Seattle gave me part # Raybestos H9226 but, they are no longer available. I did find a NOS set on Ebay when I put my 58 Viking 60 together a year ago.

It looks like RockAuto has that part # on a wholesaler closeout for just under 10$. I ordered 2, they have 2 left. Hopefully they are correct.

Here is a link to the ones I bought. They seem like the exact ones I bought almost a year ago. 2 sets left! They are a "beehive" spring and not a cylinder, meaning the coil in the center is larger diameter than it is at the ends but, they fit and pull the shoes back correctly!

I have parts for this truck. I have a complete 58 Viking minus the engine and trans. I am located in east central Texas.

Have you guys figured out MelodyM only checks in on this post every 3 or 4 weeks. Last post 1 month ago. Obviously not a priority.
