For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 261 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 261 | Hi All, trying to put my 50 1/2 ton together. The support at the front of the hood that holds the latching pin, was it zinc plated from the factory? It looks like the hood hinges were also zinc or galvanized from the factory? I have not been able to find any pictures of original trucks that show what the factory finish was. I am pretty sure they were not painted. Any help? thanks. | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 289 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2007 Posts: 289 | They were plated. Here's some pictures of my '52 GMC with original finish hood hardware. hood latch pin , latch plate , hood hinge I believe they were cadmium not zinc or galvanize finish, but you may have trouble finding a plating company to do cad plating because of the EPA regulations. You will notice that the springs on the hood hinges have a black oxide finish. Mike
