For member #5 I used plate steel and c clamps and it worked really well but #6 is a thicker metal and that method isn't working this time.

It's noisy, but it works. These old frames can be heated and worked hot without much danger of losing strength, not like the alloy frames on newer vehicles.

The low carbon steel used before the 1980's or so doesn't lose much if any strength when heated to a dull red color. Just don't approach the melting point and you'll be OK.
