I have marked and drilled most of the spot welds but am having trouble on the lower piece that goes under the floor . This piece is about a inch by 5 inch under the tread. I dont see and dimples for the welds.Could this be underneath ? Would the assy manual have a pict. of this area? Thanks for any guidance or if there is a better way to do this. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 38 | Your right, welds are under.. maybe this will help 59 step | | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 | Thank you Thats a great pic. Looks like the tab runs the front of the step. Will get under it tomorrow and see what can be done. Hope not to hurt the floor pan. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | I believe you are speaking of the hinge pocket? At any rate, as you may know, you don't replace the whole thing just because the patch panel is a certain size. You only cut out the rusted part and replace only that. Unless there is a special reason for more. The door should be taken off to eliminate weight stress on de-welded areas.

The rest of the jam is all nice, but I have limited tools to cut the area out. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | I wondered if I could trim around the pocket and just weld in the plate . Below the indent or above, into the weld nuts? Can't tell what exactly you are doing. If you don't have proper tools you can't do these types of repairs. Air die grinder, welder, clamps, etc. Is this what you purchased? http://www.classicparts.com/1955-59-Inner-Lower-Door-Post-Right/productinfo/44-562/#.WBjJPOnrs5s

The rust is mostly around the the hole where the hinge goes. It would be nice to just cut around that area and overlay the panel. the rest of the area is strong, no rust. No air die grinder, have a sawsall and a elect angle grinder. I think I will try cutting out a small area and see if that will work. can always make the hole bigger or remove the panel. | | |
