The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Clutch Housing Problem

The 1954 235 is rebuilt and in the 1946 2 ton along with the 1946 clutch housing. So my son's truck is back in the road under its own power again.

The plan for the 1946 235 was to mount it on a 1945 rolling chassis that I have and have a large four wheel engine stand of sorts. For I do not plan on getting rid of the original engine.

Before I emptied out my garage to lift the engine and try to install it I said let me check that everything fits. The problem is when I went to check how the motor mounts and the 1954 clutch housing line up to the 1945 frame.

I see that there are no bolt holes on the rear edge side of the 54 clutch housing to bolt the mounts to like there is on the 46 clutch housing.

Also the bottom edge of the 54 housing has the rear bottom edge angled up were the 46 housing the rear bottom edge if flat.

So I assume that I will need another 1946 clutch housing to mount original engine on the 1945 rolling chassis?

Is my assumption correct?

Hindsight is 20/20. Things would of went easier having the original 1946 engine rebuilt and converted to bearing inserts. Live and learn. Thanks Jeffrey

Unless you need to mount the pedals on the rolling frame for some reason, any pre-54 bellhousing will have the correct mount angle. I have several of those housings, including one from a 1946 truck. Drop me a PM.
