I'm looking at getting a 46 GMC panel truck.. I'm new to panel trucks but know my way around the 40s pickups...some days.

1) would the 216 engine be a direct swap to replace an old 240? Just for kicks, I would like to use a 1937 car 216 engine with the 3 speed floor shift...any idea if this would just bolt in...I know the 1940 car and tucks 3 speeds were the same save the shifter linkages

2) I would like to put a 40 front clip on this truck. Do you know where and how much I would need to shorten the frame?

also could someone post a pic of what an original interior would look like. I have a basic idea from seeing old ones but does anyone have one restored to original that I could see for reference

thanks

A GMC of that vintage would have had a 228 or 236 engine. I've never heard of an "old 240". A 216 is physically shorter than a GMC engine besides being not near the engine in function or performance. But it's your truck.

My mistake the engine is a 236 (thanks for correcting me, GMC is not my forte)....and its beyond repair. I have a rebuilt 12v converted 216 that needs a home and a front clip from a '40 truck (the panel I'm looking at is missing the front end anyway). Looking to make this 46 panel body/chassis work with the stuff I already have. This is an extreme budget build, so I don't really care how it looks or performance. Just want a driver, looking for advice on how to make it all work....hope that explains my situation

I would think that given the differences in the GMC vs The Chevs that a direct bolt in would not be likely. However, that being said, I would bet they are close enough that with some fabricating on your part and a little creativity you could make do quite nicely.
