Hello Bolters,

I recently swapped a V-8 into my 1995 (2nd). I'm using a manual 3-sp overdrive trans. The problem I'm having is shifting between 2nd and 3rd...they are totally reversed (2nd gear is down, third is up)
My old 6 cyl used a bellhousing that had a pivot to switch between 2nd and 3rd...my V-8 does not.
Does anyone out there know if I need special shift linkage or special shift arms to make shifting 'normal' again?

We don't do 1995's. Are you meaning 1955 2nd?

You might be able take the transmission shifting lever off of the transmission and put it back on 180 degrees out. This should reverse the action the same as the 6 cyl. bellcrank does.

The 55 6 cylinder with the pivot on the bellhousing is similar to AD trucks and a one year only for TF trucks. The 55 V-8 trucks and all subsequent 6 cylinder trucks used a different set up.
The later configuration is as follows:
The shifter box has a dog leg to clear the left exhaust manifold.
The side cover is different as both shift levers are pointed downward and slightly forward. There is no similarity with the 55 side cover as the long shifter shaft is on the 2-3 on the 6 cyl version and it is on the 1-R on the V-8 version.
The 2-3 shift rod is one piece.
The clamps that connect the shift rods to the shifter box are different.
There is no change on the 1-R shift rod.
My suggestion would be to obtain the complete linkage conversion from a newer truck and to get the correct side cover.
Fred
