looking for anyone who has used the trans dapt engine mounts for mounting there engine. I am trying to find out where I could easily bolt them in/drill the bolt holes since no one makes a true bolt in mount. didnt know if anyone could take a measurement of where on the 58 frame that they made there holes..

Be best to make your own mount locations to fit your application, accessories and truck exactly.

A 350 is exactly the same size, and mounts the same way as the 283 that was available as original equipment. Why would you need custom mounts?

Are you changing the transmission out too? To use the mount you want, you'll need a trans that has mount holes on the tail shaft (like a car).

doing a TH400 and have the aftermarket mount for that to install so I have to unbolt the factory trans crossmember and figure that part out.

with an automatic you can't use the original front mounts, need to fit the aftermarket side mounts in as you go - if the mount you got is the type like the trans mount that can be bolted inside the channel, just 'suspend' everything in place with the mount cross bar attached to the engine and mark the holes, don't try to guess using someone elses measurements from a different installation

the front face of the block should be just behind the front cross member where the original front mounts were as seen here .... sets the fan about 1/2" from the rad and leaves just enough clearance from the firewall for the distributor - if you've got the HEI, you'll need to have the engine as far forward as you can get it for enough clearance

Ref points are great for "coarse" planning but you should not install a motor and trans into it unless you mock it all up, settle everything on it's purposed place. Check carb mounting surface for level, check all kinds of clearances like steering box/column shaft, exhaust, hole in floor, dizzy, fan, pulley, pinion angle... before drilling or welding. Not to say you are doing this but you shouldn't do it by measuring as others have said.

a bare block and an empty trans case make mount positioning an exact science, not a SWAG. Guessing is for crystal ball reader, not chassis builders. It's got to be EXACTLY right!

they make a plastic engine just for this purpose, I don't know if it would work attached to the transmission or not. Or how much it would cost. Might be worth looking into though.

Too much money for one time. $300-$450 for plastic. Better to use the actual motor and trans. Nothing better than that. Has all accessories and such. A bare block and tranny case is good for building a hot rod from scratch. I feel that when swapping, you need all the real deal, right down to hood clearance for the air cleaner. (not a problem on these trucks). You gotta have the pulley and fan and dizzy on there and carb mounting surface leveled, etc.
