For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 310 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 310 | Hi Gang, I found my rear-view mirror in a pile of junk, 40 years of weather made the steel rusty (cleaned by electrolyse and ready to be painted) but also the mirror part of the glass is mostly gone. I could cut a new one and polish/round off the sides, but mirrors nowadays aren’t as thick as the one I got and if I can keep it original for a bit more money I will. Any hints? Do it myself?

What kind of shop would do that? Jewellery? I have no idea, not even in my former home country, Holland would I be able to tell you what shop would do something like that. But I’ll shop around in town and see what I can come up with.At least I now know what to ask for Thanks for your time Richard | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | mirror is available in many thicknesses [2,3,4mm] - check at the biggest glass shop you have handy and they should be able to cut you some new - re-silvering isn't likely to be available locally, and would prolly cost double what a new piece would cost

You won't know whether it is new or original when it is installed. Just call some local glass shops, they should be able to point you in the right direction. I have another mirror that needs to be done - it's a piece of tapered glass for an original day/night mirror. Not something that is exactly easy to replace. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 310 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 310 | Thanks GMCpanel, But I'm 80 miles from local town, so I thought I might try a different approach. I'll be on the phone a lot I guess.
