Recap of my son's 1946 2 ton, 235 engine rebuild. The engine dropped a valve and put a hole in the top of the 6 piston. We decided to go with a total rebuild.

At that very same time I was given a 1954 235 that was originally from a 1954 1 ton. S o we decided to get the 54 rebuilt instead.

The shop that did the engine pull and will be doing the install called me up to come get the old transmission parts for he was done rebuilding the trans. When I got there he said the 54 flywheel only has 6 holes taped and used a 9" clutch.

Where as the 49 flywheel had a 11" clutch and had more holes (forgot the number he said) tapped to hold the pressure plate to the flywheel.

He does not see a 11" clutch for a 54. So he wants to use the 46 flywheel (if it fits) so the truck can stay with the 11" clutch.

He was thinking that if the 46 flywheel bolts up it maybe better to swap flywheels so we keep the 11" clutch.

My concern is the timing BB mark going to be the same.

Will his truck function ok with the 9" clutch. He uses the truck for his catering business.

Comments and advice appreciated. Jeffrey

46 clutch specs. HERE
54 clutch specs. HERE

I'm not sure if the 54 flywheel will fit in the 46 bell housing. Patrick's Antique Cars & Trucks would know for sure.
Timing marks shouldn't be effected.

Called Patrick, found out there are no 9 bolt hole 11" pressure plates to be had anywhere. Jim Carter printed catalog show them, but their website said not available.

Googled 11" Chevy and Summit Racing came up. They had a 11" and according to the photo it was a 9 hole. I called them and they told me it a 6 bolt that the photo on their webpage was incorrectly showing 9 bolt holes. They told me to call Center Force and Zoom, their clutch manufacturers.

I called CF and they had no 11" that would fit the 46 or 54 flywheels.

Called Zoom they had nothing for the 46 but they had a 6 bolt 11" clutch kit that will fit the 54 flywheel. They gave the clutch kit part number so I then ordered it from Summit Racing. Jeffrey

Cool; post the part numbers when you get a chance (if it fits).
