For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 | Recap of my son's 1946 2 ton, 235 engine rebuild. The engine dropped a valve and put a hole in the top of the 6 piston. We decided to go with a total rebuild.
At that very same time I was given a 1954 235 that was originally from a 1954 1 ton. S o we decided to get the 54 rebuilt instead.
The shop that did the engine pull and will be doing the install called me up to come get the old transmission parts for he was done rebuilding the trans. When I got there he said the 54 flywheel only has 6 holes taped and used a 9" clutch.
Where as the 49 flywheel had a 11" clutch and had more holes (forgot the number he said) tapped to hold the pressure plate to the flywheel.
He does not see a 11" clutch for a 54. So he wants to use the 46 flywheel (if it fits) so the truck can stay with the 11" clutch.
He was thinking that if the 46 flywheel bolts up it maybe better to swap flywheels so we keep the 11" clutch.
My concern is the timing BB mark going to be the same.
Will his truck function ok with the 9" clutch. He uses the truck for his catering business.
Comments and advice appreciated. Jeffrey | | |
