I have a 68 GMC 4500 2 ton with the firewall mounted booster. The booster is bad it's leaking air. Is there anyway around paying 400$ for a new one at napa? Thanks in advance for the help

if you have a part #, you might try to cross reference it on RockAuto. Or, try a brake and clutch svc shop. Here is Seattle, there is Brake and clutch supply, they do a lot of big stuff, as well as reline shoes, brake bands, etc.

Thank you for the reply. I tried crossing the part number and have found nothing. I think 440$ for a booster is ridiculous

Try going on RockAuto and entering your make/year and then select the biggest vehicle on the list. Go through the pictures and info to see if yours shows up. You can also try looking at model years that share the same chassis, etc. GM is famous for using the same brake system components for years across their different models. I just went there and selected a 1968 P30 and they have a firewall mounted booster displayed. You could also try looking at GMC too.

Hy Isaiah, I tried to cross the GM part numbers at RockAuto (3979525 and 3979527) but no luck, the Midland Ross p/ns are C4091B and C4091E, I tried to cross them as well but again no luck. You might try contacting Geoff at Alreta brake parts. The Napa number you gave does not reference the original or manufacturer part number, that makes it hard to try to cross as that number is only valid in the Napa system. You can get a 10% discount on Napa's price if you order online, at least according to their website, hope that helps.

I know it is a Ford but the 1968 Ford b600 brake booster looks exactly like mine on napa's website ,what do you guys think? It's 174$. Even if o bought that a MC it would still be cheaper than the GM 400$ booster

Hy Isaiah, pictures on websites are not always a true representation of what the part in question actually looks like. Is the Napa part number the same as the one you posted earlier? If the part number is not the same could you please post it here? Did you contact Alretta truck parts to see what they could offer, Geoff is extremely knowledgeable?

Hello, I did not contact him yet, my work schedule makes it hard to contact people because everyone is closed by the time I et off. I decided against the Ford booster. It's about the same price wise after taxes and shipping and the guy at napa said I would have to pay for it before I ordered it. NBB5479406 is the part number for the Ford booster. So I think I am better off just to order the one specifically for my truck. On another note I took my booster off the truck today and it is severally rusted on he inside. The MCthat was on the truck when I started it had been leaking for years. I found no numbers on the booster just Midland stamped in it and a sticker saying it was rebuilt by independent rebuilders. Should there be numbers on it somewhere?

Hy Isaiah, the Midland booster had an aluminum tag that had a hole in it, it was attached to the ring clamp bolt, the rebuilders probably remove them after their overhaul. Did you check into Napa's 10% discount if you order the part online?

I did and was going to do that but when I resorted it they said I had to come into the store and pay for it in advance. I work until 530 so that wasn't an option. And that deal ended the 10th

I would just buy a booster for a 1 ton. There probably isn't enough difference to even notice. Rockauto has em for $76.

I bought one for a 1 ton and not even close , about half of the size of my booster and I would have had to change mounts and everything. I have just parked the truck until next year out of frustration , I can't afford to keep dumping money into it anymore..
