Got a slight problem and i,m figuring one a you guru,s has been there before.
My
52 was missing the hood emblem when i got it,some SOB had pried it off with a screwdriver just to STEAL IT,Damaging the hood :mad: :mad:
The parts truck had one but its rotten on bottom
The one I have on the 6400hood is in exellent shape only needing lettering/decals to bring back the face to mint,,,Here,s the problem.
The hold downs/body clips are rusted and 3of the4 screws are broke off.Are these available or is some thing adaptable. :confused:
I just cant see spendin 50 or so bucks for a new repop just for the clips.

My truck is a 55/1st, so I am not sure this will apply. My emblem is stamped stainless with the mounting screws set in steel brackets spotwelded on the back. This is a common rust out situation...the stainless emblem looks great but screws and brackets in back are gone. I made new brackets out of 20 gauge sheetmetal, put 10-32 screws in and silver soldered them to the brackets. After carefully removing the old rusted brackets I silver soldered the new brackets in, complete with attached screws.

This seems like a big deal, but my rig is a 4400 and this emblem, being larger was not available anywhere. The heat from a small torch won't discolor the stainless much, and it buffs out quite nicely. To be honest, if I had been able to find a "repop" for this size truck, I probably would have bought it...it is something you see everytime you walk by or pop the hood and it should look nice.

I found a brand new one through Jim Carter's for $39.95 plus shippin. It was on an E-Bay listing he had out there for several months. Probably still available in the price range, if you call them.

If you're an E-Bay shopper, keep your eye out there. They pop up in pretty good shape frequently.

Lastly, I've got one I would part with that's in pretty good shape, with all of the fastening hardware still in place, and in usable shape. It's an original from one of my 52 1/2 tons. Send me an e-mail and make an offer, if you're interested.

Stuart;Thanks for the reply.Yes your emblem is diff in 2 ways,size and mounting.
The 47/53 is usually stamped stainless and the clips are steel but not welded or soldered in,There a slip fit and then crimped.
The2 inner clips are longer than the 2 outer ones.
they actually look similar to a GM rocker moulding mount clip, although 2 different sizes.

I also had thought if I could find a body shop supply and get into one of their catalogs????

Since it sounds like you have to repair the front of the hood anyway, why not fill the holes and leave the emblem off? Much cleaner look.
