Once again I am totally confused. I want to put an after market steering column in my 53/3100. I want turn signals without the golf cart look. Flaming river makes a nostalgic column, non-tilt with turn signal. I can't seem to find out if my stock steering wheel will fit. If not is there an adapter for that and which one. I have e-mailed them and they say no on the 53 but yes on 69+. I thought I was told that chevy had the same mount hole and splines since the 40's. I can't see how I am the only one that wants to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well, MIck,

I do not know what the golf cart look is with respect to turn signals; however, maybe someone knows if you can use your 1953 steering wheel on a 54/55st truck steering column (I think the optional 54/55st turn signal assembly is available as a reproduction assembly).

This would bolt right in place and not change any steering geometry.

The "golf cart look" is the switch that clamps on the wheel. Just what I call it because my golf cart has one. I know it's original but I wanted a cleaner look. I want to put my original steering wheel on a flaming river "nostalgic" new steering column with integrated turn signals/ no tilt.

So, as posted above, if you cannot find a "nostalgic" new steering column, one possibility is a 1954/55st column with an original-style optional turn-signal assembly (which is not a clamp-on "golf cart look" turn signal assembly).

I do not know if the 1953 truck steering wheel will fit.

I get it now. I'm an idiot. I will check my secret junk yard in the woods. He has a bunch of old trucks and panel wagons. Fifty bucks seems to be his magic number. I will try to to find the retrofit part. I have no problem finding a 54/55 column and wheel Thanks again. I'm sorry I'm stupid.

I think the 53,54 car and AD truck column/jacket were the same diameter,
The difference was the length.
The 1953 and 54 passenger car turn signal cover assembly
I believe will fit on the 1953 truck column/jacket.
It does fit on the 54, 55 1st series truck column/jacket for sure.
1953-54 Chevy BelAir Turn Signal Housing-1955-59 Chevy Truck
The 54 truck speedometer had one light socket for the turn signal indicator.
On the 53 you could mount the turn signal light indicator on the dash somewhere.

Thanks that's great. I have a 54 3/4 ton sitting in the back yard that I am using the speedometer out of. someone tried to put a tilt column in it before I got it but can find one if need be. I love this site. Thanks again, I'm getting smarter.

I found a D2-53 turn signal column switch in good shape. Got it for 10 bucks from my buddy. I hope this works. If not it's only 10 bucks. I'll be asking for help hooking it up if it works on my truck. Thanks jorb.

I put the OEM turn signal switch I got on my 53 truck. It fit right on there. I also got a steering wheel off a 57 truck and it looks great. Nice and original looking. Will have to shorten the column due to the different style of wheel. I will do that when I rebuild it. This looks so nice . Thanks jorb.
