where is a good place to buy original exhaust system for my 52 chevy 3800 1 ton truck. any help would be appreciated

On one project I did I used cardboard tubing of the approximate size I wanted to use and taped it all together firmly to show the routing of the exhaust system I wanted. It had the bends, a couple places for connections, etc. I took it to my local muffler shop in a few pieces and they bent it up for me in a couple hours. Melvin (the shop guy) said, " I've never seen that one before." It worked well enough for me. Plus it was fairly cheap.

Drive the truck to a local shop that has a custom bender and guy that knows how to use it.

Need a pipe off the manifold .....to drive it. 2" Rigid Electrical conduit is the exact size for the exhaust collar and 90* present sweep works perfect.

Shop by the exhaust shop first to judge if they are up to the task and price estimate.

I used Waldons for one truck........took 5 weeks to get it, but it was well done.

I needed a new exhaust system (54 3100)..again and I tookit to a exhaust shop...done same day,looks good and reasonably priced.It was done well enough to look original.like showkey suggested,make sure they are capable to do it will commit to a good job. Most times they like to see the vehicle to do a quote.

i listened to everyone's advice. took it local shop 300 bucks and job was superb. thanks

On a 50 one ton, what would you guys recommend for clearance between the bed floor and the exhaust curve over the rear axle? None of my trucks have ever had piping past the mid frame. I want to take the front piece in and have it made, then make a template for them to make the rear part.

Most times it is much easier for the exhaust shop to have the truck there when having to make a pipe up. They know what to what to do for clearences etc. You don't want to have pipe made based on drawings or a template to find it won't work right when you go to install it.jumbo 24....glad you got a system made and are happy with it.

Hi Fox You are where I'm at with making a template or waiting and once all back together driving to a local shop. I was quoted close to 700.00 for complete system. I have researched and found on here a couple of bolters that have posted bend cards from muffler shops that show lengths and bend angles, I'll try to post or send to you if I can find them again.

Put one of these on the bottom of the bed, above the hump in the exhaust pipe (where it goes over the rear axle housing).

I posted this once before as a tip for when I did a very similar exercise on my '50 3600. I made my template out of PVC sprinkler pipe, heated it and bent it with a propane torch. Easy to work, cheap to buy and when you need to carry it to the shop it is pretty light weight. My two sections fit perfectly but your results may vary (I went to an old school, neighborhood shop).
