Ok everyone. I am in the works of purchasing a GMC suburban. I have the serial number 101 22 P 54384. I need help pen pointing what year it is. It's a clamshell with sliding windows in the back, not solid like I've seen on some. Has 51 or newer doors because it has vent windows. If anyone can help it would be great!

Seems to be a 1951 1/2 T "short" 116" WB, 228 motor, Pontiac, MI assy plant. Serial does not jibe. Are you sure it's "5"xxxx? Should be a "2"xxxx.
Available with barn door or liftgate/tailgate. Do not see any with solid windows in rear. (Chevy info)
You can do solid if you want that look. I believe the rear solid did not come in til the 60's.
I did all solid on a 56 GMC Carryall.

It's a 1947-1954 Chevy, gmc , advanced design suburban! I've seen a 54 barn door here in Colorado with solid side window instead of the sliding ones. The GMC I'm looking at has the sliding side glass, with vent window on the doors. Along with the clamshell back lift gate. No seats but that's not a big issue. Owner I'm buying it from can't find the title. She doesn't know where her husband put it. And seeing they are hoarders she can't even begin to know where to look in that mess of a house of hers!

And yes I'm sure it's a 5 xxxxxx number took a picture of it!

Solid side windows were common on special equipment panel trucks (1/2 ton and 1 ton). All standard-equipment Suburbans came with sliding side windows (different slide handles and stops were used in different years).

1950 was the first year that a panel truck rear doors model Suburban was available, in addition to the tail-gate/lift-gate type "doors" Suburban.

1947-55 GMCs were called New Design trucks - Chevrolet trucks were called Advance-Design trucks.

Can you post a link to the picture of the ID tag?

Does it have painted bumpers and painted hub caps?

Thanks that's great information on the suburbans, I have always thought the GMC's and Chevys were both advanced design that's good to know! I will try to upload a pictures of what I'm looking at.

The code looks just like your description.

101 22 P 54384

The 101 indicates 1/2 ton short bed
The 22 indicates 228 engine
The P indicates Pontiac engine plant
54384 = 1953 production year?

A lost Title is the easiest thing to replace. Owner takes their ID and vehicle Serial Number to MVD to get a duplicate title. I've heard that lost excuse many times. Hopefully that's all it is, just lost.

It just has painted bumpers. No hubcaps are on it anymore.

And yeah I'm hoping I can just take the old lady down there with me and I can get her to get one for me.
