Thanks for all who replied to my earlier post regarding the tapping sound coming from the valves.

The general consensus was that it was normal
However I can still hear something that to me doesnt sound right

I discovered that if I loosen the valve cover nuts the noise goes away
So it seems that something in the valve train is coming into contact with the valve cover.
Any one ever heard of that before?

I removed the valve cover and looked for any bright spots where contact may have been made but nothing obvious

I wonder if this is a case of the noise being propagated through the valve cover when the nuts are tightened. I would also check to see if the cover is contacting the oil supply line. If it is it could shift it slightly and cause interference under the side cover.

Do the valve cover nuts have the rubber washers and flat steel washers between them and the cover? I've used gasket punches and 3/16" thick rubber gasket material to make valve cover washers at times.
