| | | | Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 16 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 16 | I have 1 51 1/2 ton with a 54 235 and a cast iron power glide...also running a 6 volt starter with the 12 volt conversion system...all works except the teeth on the flex plate look chewed up when I look through the starter hole...haven't pulled it apart yet but suspect maybe the flex plate is the later one for 12 volt starter ? my research says I need the early flex plate with 139 teeth used through 54...the casting on the trans says it was built in 54 and the block casting on the engine indicates 54 as well...guess I wont know if I have the correct flexplate until I get it apart but the teeth are still bad...having har dtime finding a replacement but have heard some people either weld the teeth up and refile them or some people weld on a new ring gear...anybody have suggestions on this ? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 |

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 54 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 54 | marljohns, I'm sure if you do a search you will find the info you need on ring gears and starter drives, as far as repairing the ring gear all you can do is replace the ring gear, not sure where you are in Washington state, but in the Stanwood area is a shop Buffalo Ent. who can replace the ring gear on your flex plate, he's doing a couple for me, look him up, give him a call | | |
