on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2016 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2016 Posts: 6 | So, I'm having so many problems with my Chevy 350 that someone said it would probably be a better idea to get a whole new engine. And since I like Speed and Power, I want to find a powerful engine that can still fit in my truck. The truck is a 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10. Do you know if it will fit, and do you know if it will fit the transmission that is currently in the truck? If that engine doesn't work, what is the biggest thing that will? Trying to find the right truck.... If anyone sees a complete 60-66 C10 or K10 on the East Coast for under $1,000 please let me know | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Fit into truck: Yes, it will fit. It will fit into anything, MG's, Corvette's...trucks have plenty of room. Distance from motor mount to trans is the same SMC/BBC. The extra length is in front of mounts. Same motor mounts will work, may have to use low style valve covers.
Tranny fit: Everything fits everything from about 62 on. So if you have a 350 then, yes, tranny fits 454. This is why Chevy drivetrains are so popular and easy to work with. There is nothing like the sound of a BBC. It vibrates your diaphragm the same as a Harley.
454's have peanut port heads and oval port heads. Try not to get peanut. Rectangular will be hard to get and not for daily drivers. Google all that to learn.

They come in 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2 & 7.0 liter. Look for a wrecked 2wd pickup, "G" van, Camaro or Corvette and get the engine, transmission and all the fuel injection stuff. The modern engineering is far more superior.

You will have to hammer the firewall to clear the heads on 60 thru 63 trucks. the exhaust manifolds can be a clearance problem. And the clutch Z bar will need reworking. I had a 390 HP 427 in a 63 once. passed everything except gas stations. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I had a 63 with a 454 at one time. I didn't do the swap but it was done right. I took out the TH400 & put in a 700R4. It ran strong but was front heavy. It got squarrely over 90. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
