I'm interested if anybody with a Tri-Five truck is running 8 inch wide rims. I'm hoping to use 16 or 17 inch height rims with a total height of around 33". Ebay has some good buys, but I'm not sure about clearances. If someone has a formula/genral rules for maximum tire/wheel size, that would be great. By the way, if anyone needs a 57 chassis, springs (3/4 ton), rear (3/4 ton approximately 3.70ish) and a stock front end, the're free if you can pick them up within two weeks (Minnesota). | | |

They have 4" of backspacing and don't hit my tire rod ends. I left the receipt at home so I will post tomorrow with part # and source. | | |

I believe the 3/4 and 1 ton chevy and GMC third members are the same from sometime in the 40's to 1972.

The rear axle is still available. It is not the original axle from a 57 truck. The person I bought the truck from said it was a seventies vintage rear axle. If you want come by on Friday or this weekend and look at it. If you want it, its yours. | | |

I changed the original 4:57 gears out to 1972 4:10; changed the original 4 speed tranny to a 1984 T-5; and put 16"x7" AWC aluminum wheels on it with 235x85x16 steel belted radials. The wheels were maybe the hardest to find, however the 4:10 rearend would certainly be a close second. It all fits and works great and I am turning 2300 rpm at 65 mph on the hiway. I have a 59 261 ci engine in it and we make several two and three hour trips a year in it with no problem.
