I'm trying to find out what the clutch disc size is on my 1959 Chevrolet Apache 3600, 4-speed, 235cu, before I take out the tranny and replace it. Classic Chev Parts of America shows a 10 1/2 inch. O'Reilly's has a 10 or 11 inch.
Thank you.

It's a gamble if you try to guess what is in there. There could have been changes made over the past 50+ years.

And, as you probably know, 10" or 11" were original equipment sizes.

I always take mine out and take the assembly into the parts store - if they are willing/interested in measuring/matching what I have.

Otherwise, I measure the distance between opposite-sides pressure-plate mounting holes and get a complete assembly that bolts up to those holes.

Brake and Clutch in Seattle, on 6th just N. of Spokane st. should have them sitting on the shelf. Good parts, no junk! Good guys in there too! They will look at it, walk in the back ,and come back with the whole kit for around 180$. No need for them to look that up normally. I have been going in there for 25-30 years.

I had the same question last November when I replaced the clutch on my '57 3600. The 10" was standard, but the 11" was an option on the '55-'59 3600's. Turns out I had the 11" clutch, but had purchased the 10". My local O'Reilly had the 11" in stock, so I got lucky.

I would buy both so that you have them both on hand and return the one not used.

The 11" does not allow much wiggle room to get in or out, especially if you are doing it on your back. Be patient.

Good luck,

Matt
