Just purchased a 1958 3800 series truck which has a vac. brake booster located on top of the frame near the fuel pump. My question is: Is this a stock item or a add on option? Also, will I be able to find parts for a rebuold? Truck is not running at the moment. The truck has a 235 engine in it a the moment.

I think you have a hydravac. I believe it was an option on 1 ton trucks. My '57 has one. You can see it in the lower right corner of this photo. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn214/jfnar/57%20chevy%203800/7f5847c2.jpg
If you search hydravac you should find some info.

You also should check out the "Tons o' fun" forum. It is 1-ton specific.
