I want to match the stock mirror mount that is on the drivers side. Install inserts? How?
Thanks all. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 | When I had a driver side mirror installed, I wanted the guy to get a metal plate at least 2x thicker than the door metal, weld nuts to it then glue it to the inside of the door. Then screw the mirror on, which would hold the plate in case the glue failed. What he did instead was drill 3 holes in a plate that the screws would thread into and pop riveted the plate on. The rivets are hidden under the mirror base. NOT my choice. Unless somebody else has other ways, I think those are your 2 options, without finding a door that has factory attachment. Just be sure to place the mirror in the right spot if you use one of the 2 options I gave.

On the other hand if you did as Cablemill suggest and add a plate inside the door, then joined the two together with the nutsert with the holes aligned for the mirror. That might work. The PO of my truck replaced the cargo mirrors with just one aftermarket on the driver's side and it flexes. I want to add a matching one to the passenger door and stiffen up the drivers. Thanks guys, I can do this.

There's always more than one way to do a job. I'm not too proud to use a masking tape to hold something in place until the bolt starts threading. | | |
