For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2016 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2016 Posts: 7 | I found what I believe is a "36" 1.5 ton Chevy truck in a grove of trees on an old farmstead. Only things missing are the radiator and the box. Engine, tranny and rear end are all complete and intact. Badge is on complete grill. One badge on one hood, missing on the other. Doors are sitting on the back of the truck. Complete but rusted out on bottoms. Speedometer and other 2 gauges are in dash in decent shape. 93K miles on odometer. Speedo goes to 100 mph. Frame and springs are there for the seat still in truck.Front fenders complete with a couple of small dents. Headlights are on the truck with original brackets. One complete the other has the glass lens broken. Cab looks complete to me with crank out windshield. (Crank Knob intact on dash.) No front glass. What should a guy give for a cream puff like this? Any and all help will be much appreciated. Hell, I might sell my dirt track modified race car and build this bad boy!

One thing to note, while the big bolts are cool, they are generally more expensive to build, run, and maintain and worth less than a pickup. That said, I have 2 2-tons at the moment! LOL. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2016 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2016 Posts: 7 | If nothing else I will put it in the front yard and build a huge flower box on the back for the wife. Then letter it by hand like an old delivery truck. I can't get hurt at $575 can I? Hell, I guess it's worth that to make the wife happy or mad. I don't know which she will be when I drag it home! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | '36's are pretty rare, so not many parts resources for tin, running gear more readily available, does it have a flathead engine? If so, might be Olds or Pontiac.
How badly rusted are the wheels?
Depends on what you want to do with it? Engine compartment very small for later engine. Mech. Brakes, I presume-parts?
I don't think I would give more than $500., not having seen it.

Straight 6 complete less the dist. cap and wires. The metal border is there for the box that I would guess had a wood bed. Isn't the grill with Chevy badge worth $300? Gauges? Badge off of the hood? Wheels, Glove box door, Choke knob and what ever the other pull knob is. Bell housing. tranny, drive shaft.Frame is solid, not near the ground. I guess the wife is getting a $575 planter. I told the man I would take it I I am a man of my word. Thanks everyone!

My input would be, if you don't want to keep it exactly original, but a driver, would be to put later axles, hydraulic brakes, steering under it. If not a flathead in it, what is it?
GMC engine SN's start with displacement, i.e. 228xxxx, etc. if an overhead valve. Stamped number on pad behind starter on starboard side, port side on big engines.

Jimmy, the 1936 trucks could be mechanical or hydraulic brakes. The engine is a one year block, the hood sides will have horizontal lovers. There were two cabs made in 1936, a High cab with three door hinges and a Low cab with two hinges. Mechanical brakes. If I can figure out how to upload pics from my phone I will. Thanks everyone. If this new find has been aging in the field for a long time, the chances of you getting the lug nuts off without breaking something is remote. They will most likely need some heat, penetrant, time, and a stout impact wrench. I would recommend that you just skid it up on a low trailer or a rollback and begin the disassembly where there are tools available. Good luck, it sounds like a cool project, and I hope you figure out the image posting so we can see your "new" truck.
