It looks like all I need to do is drop the driveline and pull the retainer out. question is, how big of a pain is it to pull that unit out? Thanks in advance, Les
Well, I dropped the drive line, removed the 5 flange bolts and the bearing retainer won't budge. I don't want to mess something up. Can I remove the pinion bearing retainer from the front without taking the carrier back out?

When I replaced the leaking pinion seal I removed the 1 5/8th pinion nut (thin wall socket required, I made one with the bench grinder, a cotter key also has to come out) then removed the pinion bearing housing bolts, then tapped it with a hammer. No drama, just work.
Also don't forget to mark the pinion nut before turning it so you can tighten it to the same spot on reinstall.
Good Luck
